Sunbeds to be banned for under 18s
Thursday, April 8th, 2010
The signifiant link between sunbed use and skin cancer has been recognised for some time and many organisations, including Cancer Research UK and Company magazine have been campaigning to get sunbed use banned for under 18s.
Finally, the private member’s bill to protect children and teenagers from the dangers of sunbeds has been passed by the House of Lords, just a day before Parliament is dissolved.
The bill will come into force this time next year. Although the full details have yet to be finalised, the law will mean that under 18s are banned from using sunbeds. It’s also believed that all coin-operated and unmmaned sunbeds will be banned, that all sunbed salons will be properly staffed and that proper health advice will be given out to anyone using a sunbed.
