The Book
Divided into nine accessible chapters, the book focuses on the important issues of skin cancer and sun safety.
It explores the facts about skin cancer, the different types that exist – non-melanoma and melanoma, how to recognise the symptoms and how it’s treated. There’s advice for people going through the trauma of skin cancer and for friends and family who are supporting them.
Rather than just looking at skin cancer and what happens if it occurs, the book also offers a practical and informative guide as to how it can be prevented in the first place. No-one is too old or too young to learn how to protect their skin and you’ll find plenty of tips and advice that you can take away and put into action, helping you build up your own sun safety strategy. There are chapters focusing on the major risk factors, on preventing skin cancer and one entirely devoted to sunscreen.
As well as exploring how individuals can protect themselves from the risks of skin cancer, the book also delves into the issues of how schools and employers can protect children and workers. Many schools and employers are already offering support, guidance and practical measures to deal with sun safety issues, but more could be done to protect vulnerable people who find themselves out in the heat of the midday sun.
The true dangers of using a sunbed are covered too and, as gaining a tan still seems to be a desirable attainment in many walks of life, the book also takes a look at the only truly safe way of getting a tan.
.
Whether you’ve already been affected by skin cancer, know someone who has, are keen to do all you can to protect your skin or change your old sun habits, this book will equip you with the facts, guide you through the practicalities and improve your knowledge of both skin cancer and sun safety issues.
